About Crab Orchard Golf Club
Crab Orchard Golf Club traces its origins to 1956, when Roy Glenn, a touring professional of 12 years, arrived in Carterville intending to build a golf course. The 240-acre Ferrell Farm was acquired and construction started in 1957. The course was finished and opened for play in 1959 after two years of work, with the remaining land becoming the Greenbriar Subdivision.
The club was founded by Roy Glenn along with Dr. Dale Caveness of Eldorado and Gene Timmons of Evansville. Over the following years Don Johnson of McLeansboro, Dwight Witherspoon and Phil Heckel of Carterville took part in ownership, and in 1972 Phil Heckel and his son Steve became the sole owners.

In the fall of 2020, following Steve Heckel's retirement, the course was purchased by Drs. Russell and Janice Brown together with their son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Leah, who handle its day-to-day management.
