About Spencer T Olin Golf Course

Spencer T. Olin Golf Course sits within the 750-acre Gordon F. Moore Community Park in Alton, about 30 minutes from downtown St. Louis. The layout was designed by Arnold Palmer at the request of his longtime friend Spencer T. Olin, founder of Olin Industries, with the aim of testing accomplished players while remaining playable for the average golfer. The course has hosted the 1996 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, the 1999 U.S. Men's Amateur Public Links Championship, Korn Ferry Tour qualifying, U.S. Amateur qualifying and the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association's East Side Amateur.

Measuring close to 7,000 yards from the back of eight sets of tees, the course appears open but rewards accurate iron play, with boldly contoured Penncross bentgrass greens and zoysia tees and fairways. Roughs mix Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass and fescue.

The municipal facility includes shower and locker rooms, group and corporate outing capacity, and Traditions Grill, serving sandwiches and beverages and available for group events. The surrounding park offers a fishing lake, tennis courts, a rose garden, and soccer and ball fields.
