About Golf Club of Illinois
The Golf Club of Illinois opened in 1987 to a design by Dick Nugent and Bruce Borland. The links-style layout in Algonquin is shaped by tall fescue, deep sand bunkers and mounding placed strategically on every hole, and it earned an early reputation as a demanding test for golfers of all abilities. Four sets of tees allow the course to be played at a range of lengths.
In 1990 the club hosted the Illinois Open Championship, won by Gary Pinns, the only competitor in the field to finish under par. The course has since remained a lesser-known option for golfers seeking a challenging round.

Practice facilities include a full-size range with both grass and mat hitting areas, with range balls available in the golf shop, plus a large putting green behind the clubhouse next to the first tee.
