About Coeur d'Alene Public Golf Club
Coeur d'Alene Public Golf Club was the first public golf course in Kootenai County, incorporated in June 1953 by Percy M. Lents, S. C. Sanderson, R. Patrick Campbell, Dr. Jack Allen Rice and attorney Sidney E. Smith. Four years passed between incorporation and opening, with money raised through corporate and individual pledges. Some of the land was donated and some purchased, and the sale of lots in three subdivisions surrounding the course helped speed construction of the back nine. Much of the work was done by volunteer crews using bulldozers, chainsaws, rakes, shovels and hand axes, at no cost to taxpayers.

The club is self-funded and runs as a cooperative association open to the general public, with no stockholders. Its membership is limited to Kootenai County residents who meet the requirements set out in the bylaws, and nine directors elected to three-year terms oversee the course and clubhouse without compensation.
