About Grinnell College Golf Course
Grinnell College Golf Course traces its origins to the Grinnell Golf Club, founded on October 2, 1899, after Grinnell College faculty members encountered the game of golf while away on leaves of absence. At the time the sport was spreading rapidly across the continent, sometimes jokingly called "pasture pool."
The club began with 21 charter members who saw it as an inexpensive form of exercise and recreation. Among the founders were Professor W.S. Hendrixson, C.W.H. Beyer, Professor J. Macy, Carrie Denise, E.W. Clark Jr., H.H. Robbins and Frank Thayer.

Ownership and the name have changed over the years, but the original aim of providing recreational and social opportunities for the Grinnell community continues at the course today.
