Maple Heights Golf & Country Club is a nine-hole course in Elma, Iowa, built by brothers Ken and Bob Gansen. In the fall of 1989, after harvesting 62 acres of corn, the pair began converting the field into a golf course with help from family and friends.
Landscaping shapes the layout both visually and strategically. More than 300 trees line the fairways, and four water hazards come into play, including a lake of about 2.5 acres. Some members take on the care of an individual tee box, planting flower gardens there for other golfers to enjoy. The course is set up to suit a range of ages and abilities.
