Eagle Grove Golf Course opens in unusual fashion with a par 5 — the only one on the layout. The tee shot plays from an elevated position to a fairway that slopes from left to right, and while the green is reachable in two, mounding on either side of its front edge protects the approach.
The second hole asks for a careful line off the tee to steer clear of a large maple on the right. From the fairway the approach is typically a short iron or wedge, with the middle of the green the safest target: the left side drops away sharply, and the front right is guarded by the course's only bunker.
On the following hole, a tee shot that carries the hill leaves an approach of under 150 yards. The green is one of the deepest on the course, so pin position makes a noticeable difference in club selection.
