About Oahu Country Club
Oahu Country Club traces its origins to the early years of golf in Hawaii, a time when the island of Oahu had only three courses: Moanalua Golf Club, founded in 1898, the Haleiwa Hotel Course, founded in 1899, and the Manoa Golf Club, founded in 1904. Manoa was the sole course within Honolulu itself, valued for its central location, but it was eventually closed so the land could be used for housing, leaving the city without a golf club.

The club grew out of the efforts of Wade Warren Thayer, an attorney who arrived in Honolulu in 1898 and opened a law practice there. Born in Michigan to a family with English roots in Sussex, Thayer was among those who hoped to see the game take hold in the islands. Having watched Manoa disappear, he concluded that the only way to secure a course permanently was to own the land beneath it, a parcel originally set out under King Kamehameha III.
