Newnan Country Club

Newnan Country Club traces its origins to a group of local figures — among them George Martin, Ben Hill Pinson, Dr. W.A. Turner, Judge W.Y. Atkinson, Garland Jones and T.S. Parrott — who mapped out a pasture course on Nimmons Street, stretching into the area now known as Woodbine. For years it was the only club and course serving golfers in the immediate area.

The club later moved, selling the land that became the Newnan Pines subdivision, and acquired additional property to expand the layout to eighteen holes and add further amenities. Membership remained fairly small until the years following World War II, when it grew along with the postwar boom. Social golf was a staple of club life, including mixed husband-and-wife "Scotch foursome" tournaments.
