About The Country Club of the South

The Country Club of the South is a private club set within a gated community in Johns Creek, north of Atlanta. Its golf course was the first Jack Nicklaus design in the Atlanta area, developed in collaboration with Bob Sierra beginning in 1985. The opening nine holes were completed in 1987, with the back nine following about six months later.

Nicklaus played a ceremonial round at the opening alongside the club's first head golf professional, Doug Grove, and returned to play the second nine once it was finished. To mark the occasion, charter members each received a replica of the wooden driver he used in his final Masters victory.

From 1991 the club hosted a Champions Tour event for three years, drawing players such as Gary Player, Lee Trevino and Bob Murphy. The par-three second hole earned a reputation as one of the course's sternest tests among the senior professionals.
