About Cartersville Country Club

Cartersville Country Club in Cartersville, Georgia, began with a series of community meetings aimed at establishing a country club in Bartow County. Interest grew with each gathering, and the club was incorporated that April with 83 charter members — eighty men and three women. Dargan Cole served as charter president, with Bill Wofford as vice president and Walter Hawkins as secretary/treasurer.

The club's first step was acquiring land: roughly 105 acres along Pettit Creek, purchased from Robert W. Knight, in a setting considered among the more suitable sites in northwest Georgia. Work on a nine-hole golf course followed soon after. The layout was designed by the charter golf course committee, and members themselves pitched in to build it.

The original clubhouse was erected once the land was secured and course construction underway. A swimming pool and tennis courts were later added to the grounds.
