About Barnsley Resort Golf Course - Fazio Course
Barnsley Resort sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Georgia, on grounds shaped by nearly two centuries of history. The property began as the retreat of Godfrey Barnsley, an English emigrant who arrived from Liverpool in 1824 and built a fortune in the shipping trade. Seeking cool mountain air for his wife Julia, who came from a prominent Savannah family and suffered from consumption, he carved an estate out of the surrounding wilderness.
The family endured hardship and the estate was eventually abandoned, but it was later restored and reimagined as the resort that stands today, where the historic landscape remains part of the setting.
