Deer Island Country Club
About Deer Island Country Club
Deer Island Country Club occupies a secluded 400-acre island in Tavares, Florida, set within the Harris Chain of Lakes in the Oklawaha River Basin. The semi-private 18-hole layout is Central Florida's only island golf course, with views across Lake Dora and Lake Beauclaire and holes that wind through environmentally protected wetlands.
Opened for play in 1994 as Deer Island Golf and Lake Club, the course was designed by architect Joe Lee, whose body of work totals more than 250 courses. His design approach favored playability over punishment, and the trademarks are evident here: undulating greens, hazards placed in clear view rather than hidden, and distinctive bunkering.
