Roseland Golf Course sits within Roseland Park in Woodstock, a privately owned park that opened to the public in 1876 and has remained open ever since. The park is managed by the Trustees of the Bowen Family Trust under the will of Henry C. Bowen, a Woodstock native who became a New York merchant, publisher, abolitionist and philanthropist, and who summered at the Woodstock Hill retreat known as Roseland Cottage, or "The Pink House," now cared for by Historic New England.
The grounds originally hosted Bowen's large Fourth of July gatherings, with parking for 1,200 horses and buggies, and in Victorian times featured more than 1,000 rosebushes, fountains, statuary, wooded trails, a windmill, a boat house, a dining room and bungalows.
The golf course is public and shares the park with a playground, basketball court, amphitheater, group campground, pavilion and boat launch. Boating, fishing, picnicking, walking and running are also available; swimming is not permitted, and leashed dogs are welcome.
