Great Neck Country Club in Waterford, Connecticut, opens with a tight par 4 that bends gently from right to left. The tee shot favors the right side of the fairway, setting up a slightly uphill approach with room to bail out right, while anything missed to the left finds a hazard.

The second is a reachable downhill par 5 guarded by out of bounds along the entire right side and behind the green, with a large fairway bunker to carry or avoid off the tee. Greenside bunkers and a small, firm, sloping putting surface make the target demanding whether played in two or laid up. The third is a par 3 to a fairly large but heavily bunkered green, where a shot into the center leaves a good look at par or birdie.
