About Indian Hill Country Club
Indian Hill Country Club traces its origins to April 1899, when a group of New Britain industrialists laid out a nine-hole course called Maple Hill Golf Club on land leased from Newington's Welles family. Members bought the property in 1912 and reorganized as the New Britain Golf Club, expanding the layout to fifteen holes; completing an eighteen-hole round meant replaying three of them.
A disagreement over relocating split the membership in 1917. Those who departed founded what became Shuttle Meadow Country Club, while the remaining members purchased the club's assets with a loan underwritten by A. W. Stanley of the Stanley Works and renamed it Sequin Golf Club. The 1920 purchase of 15.7 acres of adjoining farmland from E. Welles Eddy allowed expansion to a full eighteen holes.

Renamed Sequin Country Club in 1929, the club struggled during the Depression until board member Alfred C. Fuller assumed its debts in 1932, became majority stockholder, renamed it Indian Hill Country Club and made it semi-private.
