Lake Waramaug Country Club
About Lake Waramaug Country Club
Lake Waramaug Country Club traces its origins to 1898, when H. LeRoy Randall and a small group of associates laid out a four-hole course on leased land that included the former Hitchcock race track — remnants of which still shape the ground known in the club's deed as "High Ridge." Records indicate the golf club itself was organized in 1903, when the layout was extended to nine holes, all lying south of the road that now splits the club property. A large open-sided clubhouse was built soon after, near the site of the present tool shed.

In the early years each hole carried a name: The Old Oak, A Wee Bit (a short 110-yard hole), The Race Track, Ash Swamp, Stubble Hill (today's sixth), The Meadow, Kent Hollow and Home Again.
The area's golf history was preceded by the Lake Waramaug Yacht Club, an active organization hosting sailing and motor boat races, regattas and water sports from a leased boathouse later known as the Felt Cottage.
