About New Haven Country Club
New Haven Country Club's course occupies the eastern shore of Lake Whitney, a natural lake set within grounds long kept in a protected state by the New Haven Water Company as part of its safeguarding of the city's water supply.
The layout is arranged on two distinct levels: a lower section running northward alongside the lake, and an upper section bordering the west side of Hartford Turnpike and Ridge Road. The change in elevation lends considerable variety to the routing, and the terrain offers wide views across the surrounding landscape.

Golf began here in 1898, when the founders chose the site for its mixed upper and lower ground. Harry Vardon visited in 1900 and spoke favorably of the setting and its natural beauty. In June the mountain laurel along the lake shore comes into bloom.
