About Country Club of Fairfield
The Country Club of Fairfield's golf course was designed and built by Seth Raynor, a protégé of Charles Blair Macdonald, the figure often credited as the father of golf in America. Raynor produced a links-style layout incorporating his interpretations of celebrated holes from courses in the British Isles.
Creating the course required an extensive landfill project that stretched over several years, and the layout did not formally open for play until 1921. Walter Hagen, later a Hall of Fame golfer, was among those present on opening day.
