About The Country Club of Darien
The Country Club of Darien occupies more than 200 acres that once formed an Auchincloss family farm, known as Keewaydin after a name drawn from Longfellow's "The Song of Hiawatha." The family purchased the property in 1905 as a vacation retreat, and in 1956 Edgar S. Auchincloss and his mother, Catherine Agnew Auchincloss, began converting the land into a private club.
The club opened in June 1957 with 250 charter members, a figure that soon grew to 400. The golf course, laid out by architect Alfred Horace Tull, was ready for play in 1958.

The clubhouse has been enlarged and updated repeatedly since then. A ballroom was finished in 1959, a mixed grille followed in 1966 and was modernized in 1988, and later work added the Wine Room and White Oak Room in 2016. A fifth paddle court was built in 2018.
