About Buenaventura Golf Course
Buenaventura Golf Course is a municipal course in Ventura, originally designed by William Bell and opened in 1932. In 2004 it underwent a $6.5 million renovation led by Forrest Richardson, which included a complete re-routing and new playing surfaces, with the course re-opening in March 2005. The greens were re-sculpted in the classic Bell style, with subtle undulations and contours.
The layout has a parkland character, with mature trees lining the fairways and white sand bunkers set around the large bent grass greens. Hazards were shaped to appear found in the landscape rather than manufactured, and the redesign weighed safety, playability, strategy and variety.
