Tahoe City Golf Course
About Tahoe City Golf Course
Tahoe City Golf Course dates to 1918 and was laid out by May "Queenie" Dunn Hupfel, who also worked as the course's pro and manager. It began as part of the Tahoe Tavern's land holdings, with a railroad spur bringing resort guests to Tahoe City. Originally a six-hole layout with sand greens, it was expanded in 1926 to nine holes measuring 2,700 yards, a configuration that development of the surrounding property later made permanent.

Ownership changed hands several times as the Tahoe Tavern's separately deeded parcels were divided, passing to Gordon and Pat Hyde and then, in 1948, to Carl Bechdolt, Jr. and his wife Elsie. In 2012 the Bechdolt family sold the course to four public partners — the Tahoe City Public Utility District, Placer County, the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and the Truckee Tahoe Airport District — with the aim of keeping it a public course for Tahoe City.
