About Poplar Creek Golf Course
Poplar Creek Golf Course in San Mateo began life in 1933 as the San Mateo Municipal Golf Course, built as a Depression-era project to provide work for unemployed laborers. The course closed in April 1999 for a full renovation and redesign, reopening in July 2000 with a new layout and a new name drawn from the poplar trees and the creek that wind through the property.
The course hosts the Robert O'Brien Junior Championship and the San Mateo County Championship, an event whose past champions include former PGA Tour player Johnny Miller.
Poplar Creek remains a busy municipal facility, averaging more than 75,000 rounds annually.
