Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades opened for play in 1927, the result of a plan to create a substantial golf and outdoor facility in Southern California. The Spanish revival main clubhouse was completed the following year.
The course was designed by Golden Age architect George C. Thomas, who worked through fifteen versions of the routing over eighteen months before the layout was finished. Riviera has long hosted championship golf, including an annual PGA Tour stop and, over the years, the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Senior Open and NCAA Championships. The men's and women's golf competitions of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles are scheduled to be played here.
The club also includes a tennis operation with 24 courts and programming for a range of ages and skill levels, staffed by ten teaching professionals and three hitters available to members and their families.
