About Sequoyah Country Club
Sequoyah Country Club is a private club in the Oakland hills, organized in 1913 after a group of prominent Oakland residents met at San Francisco's St. Francis Hotel to plan its founding. The original clubhouse, designed by architect Edward G. Garden, was finished in 1915. Early plans also allowed for a polo field and racetrack, but the centerpiece of the property was the 6,100-yard golf course, laid out without any public roads crossing it — unusual for the era.

The clubhouse was renovated in 1928 to add more modern amenities. Through the 1930s the club was known for its social calendar, including a formal black-tie dinner held on the last Sunday of each month. Women's golf became a regular part of club life, and Sequoyah hosted tournaments that drew players such as Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jimmy Demaret and Byron Nelson.
