About Mount Whitney Golf Course
Mount Whitney Golf Course in Lone Pine traces its origins to a group of local golfers and businessmen who organized a non-profit entity, the Mt. Whitney Golf Club, Inc. Their first task was finding land, and a lease was arranged for the current site near Diaz Lake through the cooperation of a local cattleman and the City of Los Angeles Department of Water & Power.
After extended discussion among local residents and golf professionals about how the course should be laid out, the club engaged golf architect Bob Baldock of Fresno. Construction to his design and under his supervision began in the summer of 1958.

Building the course proved slow and demanding. The property was essentially swampland and had to be drained before a water supply for irrigation could be developed, work aided by a donated dragline. Rough grading and other heavy work relied on bulldozers and equipment loaned by local residents and contractors.
