Catalina Island Golf Course
About Catalina Island Golf Course
Catalina Island Golf Course sits in a canyon setting above Avalon on Catalina Island, with a history reaching back to 1892, when it began as a three-hole course — said to be the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi. It grew to nine holes in the early 1900s as interest in the game spread among residents and visitors, and was expanded to 18 holes by 1929.
The present nine-hole layout threads through a narrow canyon and runs toward Avalon Bay, with changing elevations and several tight fairways. Small greens, deep bunkers and rolling ground place a premium on accuracy. Views take in the town of Avalon and the Catalina Casino.
