Sun City Country Club

Sun City Country Club holds a particular place in the history of Del Webb's retirement communities: it was the first country club the developer ever built, and the model for the clubs that followed at Del Webb communities elsewhere in the country. The course is tree-lined.

Country clubs were not part of Webb's original blueprint for Sun City. In the early 1960s the community had only its North and South courses, and golfers found tee times increasingly hard to come by. Many new residents had also come from private clubs and wanted a similar setting. In May 1964 a group of residents formed an exploratory committee to look into building a country club, and Webb came to see the idea as a way to sell additional golf course lots and attract more retirees to the development.
