About White Mountain Country Club

White Mountain Country Club traces its origins to the early 1950s, when Southwest Forest Industries sought a recreational area for executives working in the nearby mill town of McNary. In 1954 the U.S. Forest Service set aside a tract of forestland in what is now White Mountain Summer Homes, and the White Mountain Golf Club was organized the same year, electing its first board of directors. By May 1955 the club counted 234 founding members drawn from a cross-section of the community, including teachers, postmasters, clerks, physicians and businessmen.

Club members built the first nine holes and the clubhouse themselves in 1956, with materials from Southwest Forest Industries and borrowed equipment. The resourceful effort led the Forest Service to open 70 lots for home leasing. The second nine opened four years later, more lots followed, and the club took its present name.

Set among the pines of Arizona's White Mountains, the course has hosted many events over the decades.
