About Lakewood Golf Club
Lakewood Golf Club is part of the Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa in Point Clear, a resort property on Mobile Bay whose history reaches back to 1847, when F.H. Chamberlain built the original two-story, 40-room hotel with a shaded gallery facing the water, along with a separate dining building and a bar known as "The Texas." The neighboring Gunnison House was acquired to handle overflow guests.
In 1863 the hotel served as a field hospital for soldiers wounded at the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi. A cemetery holding 300 soldiers was established on the grounds and remains near the 18th tee of the resort's Azalea course.
