Ballantrae Golf Club
About Ballantrae Golf Club
Ballantrae Golf Club in Pelham, Alabama, carries a Scottish theme through its hole names, drawing on Gaelic words and Highland landmarks such as Queen's View in Perthshire.
The layout mixes risk and reward from the opening hole, where an out-of-bounds boundary along the right side pushes tee shots left toward a green that slopes right to left. One of the par 5s plays as a genuine three-shot hole, beginning with a tee shot that must carry a creek and favoring the right side of the fairway throughout. Water features again on a 206-yard par 3 named for a swift, shallow Scottish river, a hole that plays longer than the card suggests and leaves less trouble short of the green than beyond it.
