Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club

Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club sits within a development that stretches from Bear Point in Orange Beach, varying from roughly a half-mile to a mile in width. Much of the property follows an elevated east-west ridge running nearly all the way to Mobile Point, a naturally dry route through the surrounding wetlands.

The land carries a long record of human use. More than two dozen primitive Native American sites have been documented within a mile of the community, including mounds, village sites, fishing camps, a rare artificial canal, and a probable ancient portage road. European claims followed, with France and Spain asserting control in the early 1700s before the area became part of British West Florida under the 1763 Treaty of Paris, and Spain reclaiming it during the American Revolutionary War. United States forces took Mobile in April 1813, bringing the acreage into the Mississippi Territory, and the Florida Territory was purchased by the United States in 1819.
