Dogwood Hills is routed across rolling land in Flat Rock, with a layout shaped by designer Bryce, who moved considerable earth to create a course that reads as part of the natural terrain. The two nines split in character: the front nine sits up on the hill, while the back plays through the valley below, with the 17th hole linking the two halves.
Water figures into a number of holes, placing a premium on ball control, and the land's contours provide much of the course's defense. It measures just under 6,700 yards from the back tees and 5,940 yards from the white tees, with fairways kept lush and greens that roll smoothly. Maintenance was long handled by Bryce and two others, and Doris has since taken an active role in caring for the course.
A handful of houses stand around the front nine, and four cabins are available to rent for golfers staying longer than a single round, though the property remains primarily a golf course rather than part of a residential development.
