About Horse Creek Golf
Horse Creek Golf Course sits off Highway 78 in Dora, Alabama, roughly 35 minutes from downtown Birmingham and 16 miles from Jasper. The project was championed by George Sides during his time as mayor of Dora, who saw a need for a golf course inside the city limits even though he did not play the game himself. Ground was broken in the spring of 1998, and the course opened in late summer a couple of years later.

The layout was designed by Birmingham-based course architect Robert Kirk, who oversaw the work closely, but construction was carried out by city employees rather than an outside contractor.
The name recalls the community's early history: the settlement was known as Horse Creek from 1884, became Sharon in the 1890s, and took the name Dora in 1906. With a population of about 2,300, the city draws players from surrounding communities and the Birmingham area.
