About Settlers Bay Golf Course
Settlers Bay Golf Course is an 18-hole public course set within a 2,000-acre residential community in Alaska's Iditarod country. The original nine opened for play in 1977 as a par 37, making it the second course built in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and the oldest still operating there. A timber-framed clubhouse followed in 1984, and a second nine was completed in 1996, bringing the layout to par 72. That addition preserved wetlands and included an artificial beaver dam on the third hole, Skwentna, along with Nikolai, one of the state's longest par 5s.

Every hole is named for a checkpoint on the Iditarod National Historic Trail, beginning with Kink and finishing at Nome. The nines were reversed after a 2002 ownership change, and the course now plays to par 71. Ongoing work has included automated irrigation on the original nine, a kitchen remodel, and two practice putting greens.
